a fascination with the stories we tell

This afternoon, while I “watched” the kids played basketball in the driveway, I completed a couple of free writes in my journal. From one of them (which started out thinking about fairy tales and attempted to flesh out some more meaningful stories we could embrace), I culled several lines which I worked into a new poem.

At the center of us used to be a woman in love” is posted over at “i am maureen” for comment/critique (leave a comment here if you need the password). It’s one of those poems that becomes three or four entirely different beasts as it evolves, and I’m not sure I allowed the right one to seduce me.
