angry (notes)

May 6, 2010

I had an assignment: write an angry poem. The challenge was to avoid talking explicitly about anger and instead create an experience of anger (its stutter, its momentum or something else) with line and stanza breaks. I struggled with it a long while — what to write about? I’m terrible at expressing anger. I get angry, of course, but I’m not sure I express it. I express frustration. I express sadness. It was interesting to consider this about myself.

But it had nothing to do with writing an angry poem. So I made something up. No imaginary husbands or husbands’ lovers were harmed in the writing of this poem, which is found in the post below this one. If you need the password, email me. It’s caroleesherwood, and I’m at gmail.
