a river of stones, stone #27

January 27, 2011

for a river of stones. Written based on a story by Jack Sherwood. Hey — if JK Rowling’s mother found an early draft of Harry Potter, she might have mixed it up a smidge when she was in a pinch for a poem (or small stone). It happens to every mother. I’m quite sure.

(I’m enjoying reading these Jack-snippets, esp. when written/edited by you.)

oh, thanks, deb! one thing i was realizing about the stones is that i give myself permission (more often than in my regular poetry) to capture the sweeter things, the sentimental things, that i may not put in a “serious” poem (whatever that means).

This is fun, Carolee. Kids are natural poets. I bet moms everywhere are stealing from their small sons and daughters. First poem I ever had published was sparked by my daughter when she was three. 🙂

It’s a pity mine are all grown up – they guard their words more jealously now.
